Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego announced her reelection campaign on Wednesday, confirming she will seek another six-year term at the city’s helm.
In a video posted to the social media platform X, the mayor listed recent investments in Phoenix by the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), the new campus being established at Arizona State University, as well as investments into “cool pavements” and homeless solutions as achievements before she confirmed her candidacy.
“That’s how we make sure Phoenix is ready to meet the future. I’m proud to announce my reelection campaign,” said Kate Gallego (pictured above) before concluding, “I hope you’ll join me in this campaign to build a Phoenix that serves all of us.”

Kate Gallego is the ex-wife of Representative Ruben Gallego (D-AZ-03), who is running unopposed for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate and is widely expected to face Kari Lake in November.
The couple’s split was announced on December 21, 2016, when Kate Gallego was nine months pregnant with their son, and the circumstances of their split have been the subject of two political advertisements released by the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC).
Last November, an NRSC commercial declared Ruben Gallego “abandoned his wife when she was nearly nine months pregnant, then married a D.C. lobbyist.” Ruben Gallego is now married to Sydney Barron Gallego, who is the director of government advocacy at the National Association of Realtors.
A second NRSC commercial in April labeled Ruben Gallego a “deadbeat dad” who “walked out on his family, abandoning his newborn son, leaving his wife, and then marrying a D.C. lobbyist.” The female narrator claimed, “If deadbeat dad Ruben Gallego would abandon his own family, he won’t be there for Arizonans when it matters most.”
Ruben Gallego’s political campaign dismissed the claim about leaving Kate Gallego while pregnant as “a baseless, deeply personal attack” after the first NRSC ad.
More recently, a judge in April determined the court records for the couple’s split should not remain fully sealed.
Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg appointed Kate Gallego to his Transforming Transportation Advisory Committee in January.
